Many players power their way through the juniors with breathtaking groundstroke abilities, only to be undone at a later date by an inability to capitalise fully on the opportunities their power game affords them, because they can’t (or won’t) finish points off in the Net Zone.

And when they belatedly try to add the Net Game, they often fail because its alien to everything they’ve learned and practiced throughout their young tennis playing lives.
