The lobbing baseliner’s intention is to lift the ball up and over the net player, so you can rarely expect an ideal situation in which to hit a smash (outside of practice).
But much of the exhilaration of Net Play comes from cut and thrust, sudden changes in direction and that sweet feeling when you nail the impossible ‘get’ with leg work, reflexes and some shape-shifting.
Lets look at various smash examples to emphasize different aspects of the stroke.
